Workshop: SDGs and Humanitarian Technology (Full day workshop)

How to propose Humanitarian technology to serve the community's needs. The pre-conference workshop is planned to take place on October 31. It would draw the interest of the attendants who are keen or interested in joining the force as Humanitarian technology volunteers, as pre-registration is required. The morning will be 2030 SDGs game with certified facilitators to lead the sessions.

In the afternoon, we will conduct humanitarian technology proposal workshop in which we will invite a suitable trainer suggested by HTB and SIGHT to lead the workshop.

Remarks:
Participants can choose to join either SDGs game in the morning or humanitarian technology proposal workshop in the afternoon with no mandatory. However, only participants who completed both workshop sessions will be eligible for an IEEE HTB certificate.

Workshop: IEEE Women in Engineering Capacity Building (Half-day)

The hybrid event for WIE volunteers who works in the local WIE AG or WIE SB to meet and share their best practices. Townhall with IEEE WIE Chair and Region 10 WIE Chair. Raise the concerns and express the need within local AG environments to the IEEE policy maker to find a solution and to make a change.

Workshop: Climate Change (Half-day)

Climate change is now a burning issue in the whole world. It basically refers to a long term change in global temperature and weather pattern. It is well understood that the major driver of the climate change is various human activities (burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas) that cause greenhouse gas emissions (e.g. carbon dioxide and methane).

Considering this burning issue, IEEE R10 Director has formed an AdHoc on Climate Change to recommend possible activities to be carried out by the R10 committees to create awareness among R10 members as well as discuss causes, adverse effects and possible technical solutions. In the long run, these activities will surely enhance member engagement and satisfaction in R10.

In TENCON 2023, R10 AdHoc Committee on Climate Change will host a Climate Awareness Forum involving the IEEE members, interested non-members including relevant stakeholders and policy makers. The forum will discuss about explaining possible threats in our lives due to the climate change and the main effects of climate change as of following:

Temperature rise: hot days, heat waves, illnesses
Storms: extreme rainfall/flooding, storms, cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons
Increased drought: agricultural/ecological droughts, Deserts are expanding,
A warming, rising ocean: sea levels to rise, threatening coastal and island communities.
Loss of species: Forest fires, extreme weather, and invasive pests and diseases
Not enough food: extreme weather events- hunger and poor nutrition, Fisheries, crops, and livestock, ocean marine resources, Arctic regions
More health risks: harming health, through air pollution, disease, extreme weather events, forced displacement, pressures on mental health, and increased hunger and poor nutrition
Poverty and displacement: Floods, Heat, Water scarcity

Sri has been associated with the lEEE since 2012 focusing on developing key standardisation programs in emerging areas focusing on building end-to-end trustworthy devices and systems with emphasis on cybersecurity, identity and privacy through his practice. Sri also heads the standardization efforts for the Asia Pacific region and leads Business Operations for IEEE's office in India. Sri and his team in India also drive the IEEE Blended Learning Program (BLP) initiative, an eLearning platform, focused on bridging skills gap for students and lateral skilling of industry professionals.

Prior to joining IEEE, Sri was associated with Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (formerly Motorola Inc.) for 17 years, managing a global Electronic Design Automation R&D team.

Sri received the Accellera Technical Excellence Award in 2009 for his leadership and contributions to design automation standardisation. Sri holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Madras University, India and Master's degree in Electrical Communication from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.
